Maricopa County Democrats Applaud COVID-Relief Aid Package Advancement, Remain Committed To Raising Federal Minimum Wage

PHOENIX - Today, President Biden's COVID-19 relief bill, the American Rescue Plan, crossed another hurdle in the upper chamber as Senators voted to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour.

In Maricopa County, the COVID-19 pandemic has cost thousands of people their jobs and, most importantly, their lives. What's worse is that hard-working communities of color are disproportionately affected, exacerbating existing structural inequities within our economy.

As this much-needed legislation reaches the Senate floor, the Maricopa County Dems raise their voice, supporting a living wage for every worker in Maricopa County.

Nancy Schriber, Chair of MCDP, releases the following:

"We are encouraged that this desperately needed COVID-relief bill is one step closer to bringing Maricopa County residents the support they need. The Maricopa County Democratic Party (MCDP) is staunchly in favor of raising the federal minimum wage and will continue advocating for a raise for every single Maricopa County resident. In 2016, MCDP actively supported Prop. 206, which raised Arizona’s minimum wage. In March 2021, the Maricopa County Dems continue to urge our Senate lawmakers to advance negotiations for an increase on the federal minimum wage, so all Maricopa County and Arizona residents receive the raise they rightfully deserve."
