Maricopa Dems React To Adel's Resignation

PHOENIX - Maricopa County Attorney Allister Adel resigned today, and it will be effective Friday, March 25.

Maricopa County Democratic Party Executive Director, Ne’Lexia Galloway, releases the following:

"Allister Adel's mismanagement, irresponsibility, and lack of transparency led to her resignation. For months, we've known about her failure to operate the third largest prosecuting agency in the country. It all started with false gang-related charges on peaceful protestors in the aftermath of the George Floyd murder.

Then, it continued with questions surrounding her sobriety on the job and lies about her knowledge surrounding paramount cases. This resignation is the accountability that the taxpayers and residents of Maricopa County deserve.

Our calls for her resignation were never about shaming Adel about her health issues. We are glad Adel is taking this time to focus on her health. Recovery is a deeply personal journey that shouldn’t be taken lightly. We wish her well.

We also want to acknowledge the incredible boots-on-the-ground efforts from community organizations such as Mass Liberation Arizona. This accountability would not be possible without these groups.

We're now ready to organize our Precinct Committee Members (PCs), activists, and volunteers behind a Democratic candidate in this November's Midterm Election. It's time the leader behind the Maricopa County Attorney's Office is committed to protecting Maricopa County families while uplifting actual criminal justice reform values."
